Joe Tessa, a commercial fisherman, found himself in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico in a Category 5 hurricane after the fishing vessel he captained became disabled with everything he owned onboard. As he struggled to get back to shore, the hurricane intensified. The storm sank the boat. The life raft failed. Joe was alone, in the water, in 25-foot waves and 150 mph winds. All hope was lost.
